The Golden Ring is a road trip route that takes in a beautiful collection of rural villages, medieval towns and peaceful bucolic countryside to the northeast of Moscow. The route takes in hundreds of churches topped with golden onion domes, ancient towns surrounded by fields filled with flowers, and lengths of uninterrupted countryside, almost entirely untouched by industrialisation. Highlights include the town of Suzdal, the incredible fortress like monastery in Yaroslavl and the serene town of Rostov Veliky, which sits on the banks of Lake Nero.
