Akagera National Park is quite simply stunning, with low mountain ranges, hypnotic savannah, dense woodlands and plains filled with wildlife. This is where you’ll see the big five in Rwanda, and though many animals were almost wiped out by uncontrolled poaching during the 90’s, the park is very much on the rise again thanks to strict conservation laws and the reintroduction of black rhinos in 2017 and lions in 2015. It’s not quite the same as Kenya or Tanzania, but is a perfect option for the already in Rwanda to see the mountain gorillas.
